Inaugural post

No longer will I lie awake at night fretting that I won’t be remembered when I die. I present to you my sphinx, my grand edifice. Future generations will stop, marvel, snap a picture, and then contemplate the power of a man who could inspire such wonders.

Was he a megalomaniac and a tyrant, breaking scores of slaves on the anvil of his desires? Or was he a kind man of the people immortalized by his adoring subjects?

That will be a subject for the historians. For now, I blog.

At first I thought about writing some kind of mission statement for this site. Perhaps let my loyal, heretofore nonexistent readership know what sort of ride they were in for.

But then I realized that I don’t follow plans well. If I were a secret agent, I’d show up to Checkpoint Charlie twenty minutes late—just in time to see my contact being shot by East German secret police.

You would show up expecting to read my latest research on water lilies only to find some drunken complaint about the government. You’d get angry, and rightfully so! I’d have lied to you. No, best to keep expectations low.

Yes, you are a tyrant who slaughters all before his implacable march to megalomania. But hey, great blogger!

We want more! The public demands regular postings. It’s not everyday when someone can blog and write.

Yes, more! I wholeheartedly endorse Casey’s call for greater productivity! You can’t be a tyrant if you aren’t productive.
