I'm not sure that this is entirely the most accurate gage of walkability, but I like to see people thinking about these sorts of issues. Our walk score in Devonport is a 46, as compared to a walk score of 75 at our old apartment in Missoula. Come to think about it, that matches my perception of relative walkability pretty well.
What's your walk score?

Mine is an 85, which I think is a little high all things considered. It is physically possible to walk to a lot of things here, but who would want to? Very unappealing, especially under the highway.
My old neighborhood in Chicago only rated an 89, and I'd say that if my current place is an 85 it would have to rate about 99.
It's a nice tool, though.
Our score comes to an 85, but it would be nice if the tool would let me mark things as false positives. I don't consider the fitness store up the way a place to get my fitness. I don't consider the crapy little mini-mart to be a grocery store. I don't consider the wholesale produce place to be a grocery store either.
So, with tweaking I think our current place is probably closer to a 50 (perhaps lower) while our previous neighborhood in Chicago probably rates closer to an 80 than the 89 they give it.
That, and it shows a private residence in Chicago as a movie theater, obviously some things are mis-represented :)
I agree with what you guys have said about the walk score. I too noticed a bunch of false positives. Oddly, I noticed some false negatives in Missoula near where we lived.
I definitely think there is more to walkability than the stores near your home. That said, loads of shops near where you live are probably a positive indicator.
It's an interesting tool though. I bet with some better data and some GIS finagling, someone could probably hit closer to the mark.
Thanks for the comments, guys!
Ok, I got a score of 77. However, this is seriously bogus. The grocery store is NOT .13 miles away. It is more like 2.0. There is a nice park less than a mile away rather than the 30 miles Google thinks.
I live in a pretty walkable space but I don't think much of GOOGLE'S judgement.
